This book, however, does a great job explaining the topics and demonstrating them using examples from recent scientific literature--a reference list is provided in the back of the book if you want to read any of the original articles.
Perhaps having prior knowledge and familiarity with the material made learning from this book easier, but in my opinion, it seemed to do an effective job conveying all the critical information in a clean and organized manner.
The analysis of biological data pdf download book goes to great lengths to explain the topics in the context of a real-life scenario, rather than simply bombard the reader with endless equations, and for that reason, I feel as if it will be an effective learning tool for your course.
If you have never had any previous exposure to statistics, it might be beneficial to pick up an inexpensive intro stats book or do a few online searches for a quick introduction prior to fully immersing yourself in the course.
My initial thoughts before signing up for a required statistics college course were that this subject would be very math intensive, difficult to understand, and one that I would soon forget after the course.
This book, however, made the subject of statistics very straightforward for a science major like me. While the math is fairly intense, I was surprised at the way the concepts behind the math were presented and how statistics was tied to the broader focus of effective experimental design.
We used this book along with SPSS statisical software and I can say that I'm confident enough now to perform basic studies on my own. While I certainly will not remember the specific equations behind the various statisical tests, the analysis of biological data pdf download, I certainly will remember the constitution of effective experimental design and the various assumption and pitfalls of statistical tests. The book itself is very readable, and includes specific examples from contemporary biological studies.
The authors also have a good sense of humor. This book is essential for a science-major oriented statistical course.
I'm amazed at how one can use an the analysis of biological data pdf download book like this as a reference to point out flaws in highly academic, experimental studies in the scientific mainstream today. I found this book to be very informative but also VERY easy to read. It was entertaining because the examples they gave helped me understand the statistical test they were doing better but at the same time also showed me how this could be applied to biology. It is also nice because they have random summaries about different things you have learned in the book throughout the book.
This book was fine for learning Biostatistics but I ended up using the next edition due to a class requirement for homework questions. If a specific edition isn't required this text is more than adequate but does not include any explanations of programs like R. I would get a different book if you want to learn a program. Best stats book EVER! If this is the required book for your class READ it! This is an assigned book for a the analysis of biological data pdf download level stats class I am taking, I read it before every class and I follow my professor with ease!
Great stats book! It's simple without being watered down, and it keeps it entertaining. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English. Finally an easy to read book on statistics with great examples for the biologist. Sums up concepts and even explains how to read the notation, the analysis of biological data pdf download. I'm so impressed.
Report abuse. Great for zoology students. Report abuse Translate review to English. This book is absolutely brilliant. It explains all the most important statistical methods and concepts used in biology simply and extensively.
The examples are interesting and informative and the book is written with a sense of humour and a smile. I can't recommend this more for students trying to fathom the complexities of statistics.
One person found this helpful. Book came sealed but with wrinkled pages and cover and blurred typeset on 4 pages. The book itself is a good guide to basic stats.
